About Counted Doors

Real resources for real families, from someone who's been there

Why "Counted Doors"?

The name honors foster children who count their placements—each door represents another transition, another home, another count. Some children know their number by heart: "This is my fifth home" or "I've been in twelve places." Each door is a threshold of uncertainty, hope, and resilience.

We provide the tools to make each placement more stable, more informed, and more hopeful. Because every child deserves a home where they stop counting.

Built by Experience, Not Theory

Counted Doors was created by someone who has fostered 13 children and adopted. Every resource, every tracker, every guide has been tested in real placements—from the chaotic first 24 hours to the bittersweet goodbyes and joyful reunifications.

This isn't academic theory or clinical advice. It's practical wisdom from midnight ER visits, IEP meetings, court hearings, therapy sessions, and countless moments of connection with traumatized kids who just needed someone to stay.

Trauma-Informed

Grounded in attachment theory and trauma-informed care practices. Practical without being prescriptive.
